Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to announce today a further boost to the government’s rescue packages under Penjana to cushion the impact of the Covid-19 lockdown on businesses.

MalaysiaNow has learnt that the amount this time will be a “little more than one-third” of the RM35 billion announced in June to boost the package, a short-term economic recovery plan tailored for those affected by the pandemic.

Muhyiddin’s speech today comes amid rumours on social media that he might be announcing the dissolution of Parliament to pave the way for a general election.

“It is not true, and is as fake as the many other speculations you will find today,” a reliable source told MalaysiaNow.

According to the source, the focus of the financial injection this time will be on the B40 and M40 groups.

Putrajaya had in March and April announced a RM260 billion economic stimulus package during the height of Covid-19 pandemic, when businesses nationwide were forced to shut down.
