Veteran MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has tested positive for Covid-19, becoming the latest politician to be infected with the virus in recent days.
It is believed that two of his aides have also tested positive.
Razaleigh is currently warded at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, while his aides have been admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
A source told MalaysiaNow that the 83-year-old Gua Musang MP had been a close contact of Ab Aziz Yusoff, the assemblyman for Nenggiri in Razaleigh’s constituency, who was confirmed to have Covid-19 last week.
It is understood that Razaleigh’s situation is stable.
Several Cabinet members recently contracted the virus amid a sharp spike in daily cases which forced the government to announce the twin declarations of the movement control order and emergency.
They include Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin; Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mustapa Mohamad; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun and Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin.
Several other ministers meanwhile have been told to undergo home quarantine.
