The driver of a trailer that crashed into the iron scaffolding of an overhead bridge structure at the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway (SUKE) construction site in Desa Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur yesterday has tested positive for drugs.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement ACP Zulkefly Yahya, in a statement today, said the urine test conducted on the 40-year-old man revealed that he was positive for methamphetamine.

The man will be remanded under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he added.

The impact of the crash caused the overhead bridge structure to collapse on a van, killing two people and injuring three others.

Zulkefly said the two victims who died at the scene have been identified as Nurina Edwin Abdullah, 47, and Norhayati Abdullah, 42. Both of them were factory workers.

He said the survivors were Zakiyyah Yakop, 51, and Zaitun Zainal, 54. They sustained injuries to their legs while the van driver, Muhd Fairus Mohd Yusof, 47, suffered fractures to his left shoulder, swelling of the lungs and internal bleeding.

In the incident which took place at about 6pm yesterday, the van had been passing through Middle Ring Road 2 when the trailer, which was transporting an excavator, hit the iron scaffolding of the bridge structure located in front of Terminal Bersepadu Selatan.
