A Selangor PKR leader loyal to Anwar Ibrahim has sent his good wishes to Umno ahead of the party’s general assembly in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, in a further indication of the parties coming together.
Najwan Halimi, the Selangor PKR Youth chief and Kota Anggerik assemblyman, also urged Umno to cut ties with Bersatu, saying it was the “sacred party” for the Malays.
“Congratulations to all #PAU2020 delegates,” Najwan said on Twitter, using the acronym for the Umno general assembly, which was brought forward from last year.
“Umno is a sacred party (parti keramat) for the Malays, thus defend your honour from being belittled and trampled by the trecherous PPBM. May everything go smoothly,” he added.
Umno’s ties with Bersatu is among the motions to be decided by party leaders tomorrow, amid pressure from Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Najib Razak.
The two leaders have been at the forefront of a campaign to cut ties with Bersatu, the party formed by Muhyiddin Yassin after he was sacked by Najib for speaking out over the then-governement’s handling of the 1MDB saga.
Najib’s criticism of the Perikatan Nasional government became more pronounced after his conviction of seven corruption charges in July last year.
Anwar recently admitted that his party has held talks with Umno leaders.
Both Najib and Zahid had written to the palace last year expressing support for Anwar’s bid to become prime minister.
