Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that he, his ministers and deputy ministers will go without a salary for three months in a show of solidarity with Malaysians.

He said their salaries would be channelled to the National Disaster Relief Trust Fund in light of the difficult situation brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The government will continue to prioritise a holistic approach in fighting the pandemic,” he said in a live address today.

“This includes efforts to optimise the healthcare system and the people on the ground to help break the chain of infection.”

Adding that the days ahead would not be easy as the situation is difficult to predict, he urged everyone to stay at home and to adhere to the health SOPs set by the government at all times.

A total lockdown will be implemented across the country from tomorrow until June 14 in a bid to curb the recent spike in Covid-19 cases which reached an all-time high of over 9,000 earlier this week.

Only essential services and sectors given permission by the government will be allowed to continue operating during this period.
