Energy and Natural Resources Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah says some 2.9 million domestic users in the peninsula with a monthly electricity use of 200kWh will enjoy a 40% discount on their bills under the RM150 billion Pemulih package announced by the government yesterday.

He said domestic users whose monthly consumption is between 201 and 300kWh will receive a discount of 15%, while those who use between 301 and 600kWh will receive a 10% discount and those between 601 and 900kWh, 5%.

“This discount will be reflected in the July, August and September electricity bills,” he said in a statement.

Shamsul said non-domestic users in the peninsula would be given a 5% discount for the low voltage commercial, industrial and agricultural categories, while users in six selected business sectors listed in the Pemerkasa Plus initiative would continue to receive a 10% discount during the same period.

Meanwhile, users in Sabah will enjoy targeted electricity bill discounts for a period of three months starting from July, involving a discount of 40% for monthly electricity consumption of 200kWh and below.

“Users with monthly consumption of between 201 and 300kWh will receive a 15% discount; 301 to 500kWh, 10%; and 501 to 1,000kWh, 5%.

“Non-domestic users in the low voltage commercial, industry and agriculture categories will enjoy a 5% discount on electricity bills, similar to the peninsula,” he said.

He also assured that during Phase One of the National Recovery Plan, there would be no power cuts for users with arrears not exceeding six months until Sept 30, with an Easy Payment Plan facility for domestic consumers to be offered until Dec 31.
