Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today invited Muhyiddin Yassin to a luncheon at Istana Pasir Pelangi where the prime minister briefed the ruler on the latest developments affecting the nation.
Muhyiddin earlier attended the sitting of the Johor state assembly, where he is the Gambir assemblyman.
Earlier in his speech to officiate the state assembly, Sultan Ibrahim had repeated a reminder to state assemblymen not to disrupt the government during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I will not entertain any political games by assemblymen and risk destabilising my state and government,” he said.
“If that occurs, then I will not hesitate to dissolve the state assembly.”
The sitting today was the first to be held since Parliament and state assembly sittings were suspended under the declaration of emergency in January.
The last session of the Johor state assembly sitting before this was held from Nov 26 to Dec 6 last year.
Following the withdrawal of support from a group of Umno MPs aligned with their president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former leader Najib Razak, Muhyiddin said he was prepared to face a confidence vote to prove that he has enough support to lead the government.
Zahid and Najib alongside PKR president Anwar Ibrahim have been at the forefront of a campaign to topple Muhyiddin since last year.
