The government has cut short the service contract of Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) chief Sabin Samitah effective Oct 19.

In a statement, LHDN said Sabin had agreed to the move to allow him to explore other fields suited to his interests.

In a separate statement, the tax agency said its deputy CEO (tax operations) Mohd Nizom Sairi had been named as Sabin’s replacement.

Sabin was appointed as CEO of LHDN under the administration of Najib Razak, but recently came under attack from the former prime minister who accused him of abuse of power.

Last month, Najib lodged a police report against Sabin, saying he had proof that “certain politicians” were behind LHDN’s action against him over some RM1.7 billion in tax arrears.
