Deputy CM died of heart complications, says Sarawak govt

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit says James Jemut Masing's last Covid-19 test came back negative.

Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister James Jemut Masing died of heart complications, not of Covid-19, the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) said today.

In a statement, it said Masing’s last Covid-19 test before his death had come back negative.

Masing passed away at the Normah Sarawak Medical Centre in Kuching at 7.05am.

Earlier edia reports had said that Masing, the Parti Rakyat Sarawak and assemblyman for Baleh, had died of complications from Covid-19.

Ukas said a ceremony for last respects would be held at the Association of Churches in Sarawak on Wednesday morning, from 8.30am to 9.30am for dignitaries followed by a public session from 9.30am until 2pm.

His remains will then be taken to Nirvana Memorial Park, Kuching.
