Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Abang Johari Openg today voiced confidence that the coalition would be able to make a clean sweep of all 82 seats in the state legislative assembly at the Sarawak election next month.
“Now is the time for us to focus,” he said at a launching ceremony in Kuching.
“Dec 18 will be a ‘penalty kick’ for GPS to score its goal. In one spirit, we, GPS, can sweep all 82 seats.”
The long anticipated Sarawak election was announced on Nov 24, with 12 days of campaigning following nomination day on Dec 6.
Its 82 seats make the Sarawak legislative assembly the largest in the country, with 1.2 million voters eligible to vote come election day.
Abang Johari also reiterated his confidence that GPS would win the election with a comfortable margin, thanking Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin again for staying out of the contest.
He said Muhyiddin’s decision was in line with the wishes of the people, who desired to be governed by a Sarawak-based party.
“I must thank our friend from Kuala Lumpur, Bersatu, for not fielding candidates in Sarawak,” he said.
“We are friendly but firm. This shows the good relationship with friendly parties like Bersatu.”
