Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has been sacked from his position as a PAS central committee member, the Islamist party’s president confirmed today.
While Abdul Hadi Awang did not reveal the specifics surrounding Khairuddin’s dismissal, he referred to the issue of party discipline when speaking on the matter, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“In our party we have discipline,” he was quoted as saying to reporters in Marang. “Those who don’t adhere can have their positions changed, be assigned somewhere else, or have their membership suspended or be sacked.”
Khairuddin, who lost in the party elections last November, was appointed to the central committee alongside two others, Zuhdi Marzuki and Nik Abduh Nik Aziz.
A source said Khairuddin belonged to a small faction of PAS leaders who want the party to continue cooperating with Umno.
PAS is part of Perikatan Nasional, the coalition led by Bersatu chief Muhyiddin Yassin.
Hadi had several times stressed that Muafakat Nasional, a charter signed by PAS and Umno in 2019 when the two were in the opposition, should also include Bersatu.
Two months ago, an audio clip of a conversation surfaced, purportedly showing Khairuddin criticising Hadi’s move to ditch Umno.
Khairuddin served as plantation industries and commodities minister in Muhyiddin’s cabinet, but was dropped by Ismail Sabri Yaakob when he took over last August.
