Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been responding well to treatment, his eldest daughter said today amid nationwide concern for the veteran leader’s health.

“His condition is now stable and he is responding well to the treatment,” Marina Mahathir said in a statement.

Marina also said her mother Dr Siti Hasmah Ali and other family members hoped that Malaysians would pray for Mahathir’s full recovery.

This is the first statement from Mahathir’s family since his return to the National Heart Institute (IJN), about a week after undergoing an elective surgery.

Mahathir was previously admitted to IJN in December, when doctors said they were carrying out a series of tests.

He was admitted again some three weeks later on Jan 7 for the elective procedure.

Mahathir was also admitted in 2013 and 2016 for the treatment of chest infections, and in 2007 after suffering two heart attacks the year before.
