Providing a vivid metaphor for Najib Razak’s “Malu Apa Bossku” tagline, Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said it was akin to a naked person relieving himself in front of distinguished foreign guests.
He said this was the culture Najib was promoting in making light of theft instead of seeing it as a national embarrassment.
As a result, he said, the people had been misled by the arguments made by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Najib, tarnishing Malaysia’s image on the international stage.
“This is the culture brought by Najib. The culture of shamelessness,” he said at a press conference for the launch of “Aspirasi Johor”, Pejuang’s campaign for the Johor state election in Putrajaya today.
He said the “Aspirasi Johor” campaign was to restore the country’s original culture which was held in high esteem by international leaders.
He also denied Najib’s claim that Mahathir had put pressure on him after he became prime minister to continue giving projects to his cronies.
“If I had cronies, I would take care of them myself,” he joked.
“But I don’t have cronies, I have capable people. I would not help those who are incapable.”
Mahathir also said that during his time in power, he had only helped those who were able to contribute to the country’s development.
He challenged Najib to provide evidence in court for every claim made.
“Sadly, I have helped many people but those who fail are not known as cronies.
“Show evidence, like we gave in court about Najib,” he said, adding that the Pekan MP’s allegations were false claims.
