Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin has quit Bersatu, announcing her decision today to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) instead.
In a statement, she said she would meet with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as soon as possible to discuss her resignation as plantation industries and commodities minister.
She said her decision to join PBM was made after in-depth consideration, thanking Ismail as well as former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin for their trust in appointing her as a Cabinet member during their respective administrations.
“I am very grateful that I was able to contribute to the welfare and well-being of the people, particularly the voters in Ampang, and in both of the ministries that I was entrusted to lead,” she said.
Zuraida was initially part of PKR, which she joined at its founding in 1999, becoming head of the women’s wing.
She quit the party in 2020 alongside a dozen other MPs to join the coalition led by Muhyiddin where she was appointed to Bersatu’s Supreme Council.
