The constitutional amendments to prohibit MPs from switching camps were passed by the Dewan Negara today.

The Constitutional (Amendment) Bill (No. 3) 2022 had been tabled for a second reading by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri.

It was passed with an overwhelming majority at the Dewan Rakyat on July 28.

Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Ismail would inform the state governments to amend their constitutions in line with the bill preventing MPs from jumping ship.

The bill won the support of 52 of 60 senators after two bloc votes, which is more than two-thirds of the Dewan Negara.

Dewan Negara president Rais Yatim, when announcing the matter, said seven senators were not present.
