Six parties have submitted applications to join Barisan Nasional.

The applications by six parties to become Barisan Nasional (BN) components are being fine-tuned by the coalition’s secretariat.

BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said the matter was one of the issues on the agenda discussed at the BN Supreme Council meeting last night.

"The Supreme Council would like to express its appreciation and thanks to the parties for their interest and readiness to be together with BN," he told reporters after attending the meeting at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The meeting was chaired by BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan and vice-chairmen Wee Ka Siong, S Vigneswaran and Arthur Joseph Kurup in attendance.

MIC representative M Saravanan, Umno representatives Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Mahdzir Khalid, and MCA representative Mah Hang Soon were also present.

Meanwhile, Zambry said the Supreme Council also agreed to establish BN Puteri to coordinate women youth movements of its component parties, with Umno Puteri chief Zahida Zarik Khan appointed as its chief.

He said the Supreme Council also decided to extend Hishammuddin Hussein’s appointment as BN treasurer-general for another two years.

Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong MP, was appointed to the post on Oct 23, 2020, replacing Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
