Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) intends to use a torch as its symbol in the 15th general election (GE15) if the coalition’s registration application is approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
The GTA sponsor committee met with RoS director-general Mohd Nawardi Saad today to submit the relevant documents and discuss the registration process.
On Aug 4, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the establishment of GTA, comprising four parties: Pejuang, Putra, Berjasa and Iman.
"In order for GTA to qualify to contest in GE15, we are doing the proper process based on the law by registering this political coalition with the RoS," Mahathir, who is also GTA sponsor chairman, said in a statement read by the coalition’s secretary-general Marzuki Yahya in Putrajaya today.
Mahathir, who is also Pejuang chairman, is still undergoing quarantine at home after being discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Sunday. He was admitted to IJN after testing positive for Covid-19 on Aug 31.
Meanwhile, Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also GTA sponsor deputy chairman, hoped that GTA's application for registration would receive due consideration from the RoS to enable the coalition to contest in GE15.
Mukhriz said GTA offered the people a new coalition comparable to existing coalitions such as Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
"Preparations for GE15 are underway and the coalition members are moving together by sharing each other's strengths," he said.
