The Selangor palace today stripped former prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor of their titles following the recent court decisions upholding the former's conviction and sentence in his SRC International case and finding the latter guilty of corruption and bribery.

In a statement, it said the titles would be revoked effective today, Sept 12.

Najib was bestowed with the Order of His Majesty the Crown Prince of Selangor or Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) First Class in 2004 and the Order of His Majesty the Crown Prince of Selangor (DPMS) Second Class in 1992.

The awards carried the titles of Datuk Seri and Datuk respectively.

Rosmah meanwhile was awarded the First Class Membership of SPMS, which carries the Datin Paduka Seri title, in 2005.

The statement noted that Najib had been charged in the High Court with abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering in relation to SRC International funds, and his conviction and sentence upheld by the Federal Court on Aug 23.

Rosmah meanwhile was charged with three counts of soliciting and receiving bribes and found guilty by the High Court on Sept 1.
