Perikatan Nasional (PN) has given its clearest indication yet that it is ready to take on Barisan Nasional (BN) at the coming polls, in a sign that the 15th general election will see a repeat of multiple contests among the major coalitions.

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said there was no use speculating about other parties and how they would contest the election, following rumours of talks between various parties in a move to avoid multi-cornered contests.

"I don't want to discuss about Pakatan Harapan. Let them deal with their problems. If they want to contest, so be it. If Umno wants to contest all of the seats, so be it," Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president, said in a speech to commemorate the party's sixth anniversary in Putrajaya today.

"We in PN have a consensus, and among our main agreements is that our main enemy is BN."

This was Muhyiddin's second strong remark in a week against Umno and BN, following his earlier statement on Monday when he questioned Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob's ability to tackle the country's social and economic challenges.

Muhyiddin said PN was ready to form the government, adding that it was time for parties to mobilise their machineries for the coming polls.

Muhyiddin also said that PN should not worry about taking on BN.

"It's about saving the country. We have to work hard," he said, adding that the coalition's survival would depend on how it performed at the polls.
