The Prison Department today denied that any video recording had been made by any media agency involving former prime minister Najib Razak, who is serving a 12-year jail term for the misappropriation of tens of millions in SRC International funds.

In a statement, it said that checks of a video that has been making the rounds on social media found that it had been recorded by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) for use in a series before Najib was sent to jail.

"The video which was aired on TV1 on Oct 24, 2022, was related to the history and background of Pekan, Pahang, and is not related to politics," it added.

"The public is asked to refrain from spreading information without first checking its veracity.

"Legal action can be taken against irresponsible individuals."

Chatter on social media had claimed that the video was proof of airtime given to Najib during his time in jail.

It was alleged that the video was part of an exclusive slot produced by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia or Finas.
