PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will face a four-cornered fight for the Tambun parliamentary seat in the 15th feneral election.
Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) prime minister candidate, will face Tambun Umno division chief Aminuddin Md Hanafiah, who is contesting as Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate; Abdul Rahim Tahir of Pejuang; and incumbent Ahmad Faizal Azumu of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Anwar arrived at the nomination centre in Dewan Sri Kledang, Ipoh Industrial Training Institute in Meru, at 8.58am while Aminuddin and Faizal arrived at 8.50am and 9am respectively.
At 10.35am, Tambun returning officer Mohamad Fariz Mohamad Hanip announced the candidates for the Tambun parliamentary seat.
The nomination process was incident-free, with the police providing tight security.
In GE14, Faizal, who contested on a PH ticket, won 38,661 votes, beating two other candidates from BN and PAS to win with a majority of 5,320 votes.
Speaking to reporters, Anwar said he was ready to offer the reform agenda for the well-being of the people of Tambun.
"We're here to offer an alternative for economic programmes and policies, and I think that gives us an added advantage," he said.
Faizal meanwhile said his campaign would focus on drawing the support of young voters in the constituency.
Rahim said he, too, would try to win the favour of these young voters and spread awareness about the importance of carrying out their responsibilities as voters.
Meanwhile, the two state seats under the constituency, namely Manjoi and Ulu Kinta, will see a three-cornered fight involving PH, PN and BN, and a four-cornered fight among PH, PN, BN and an independent candidate.
