Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that he had obtained the support of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to form the next government after the 15th general election.
He said several other MPs had also agreed to the same commitment.
"As PN chairman, I am confident that I will obtain the support needed from MPs to allow myself to be appointed by the Agong as the 10th prime minister, in line with the Federal Constitution," he said in a statement.
In a separate statement, GPS said it had agreed to form a coalition with PN, GRS and Barisan Nasional (BN) to form a "strong and stable" federal government, based on upholding the Federal Csontitution, the constitution of Sarawak, and the sovereignty of the laws allowed for in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and IGC report.
GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg said this was also based on upholding the freedom of religion and the customs and cultures of Sarawak, and autonomi in terms of development, education and health, as well as other matters of interest to Sarawak.
