PAS today congratulated Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as prime minister but said it would refer his offer of joining his unity government to the people before making any decision.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan voiced gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his wisdom in settling the political impasse, and expressed confidence that Anwar would carry out his responsibilities in a fair and courteous manner.
"Regarding the prime minister's invitation to Perikatan Nasional to join the unity government under his leadership, PAS expresses its thanks and will discuss the matter with its fellow components in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
"It will also study this view as well as the readiness of the people, particularly the voters who gave their support to PAS and PN at the recent general election," he said in a statement.
Anwar was sworn in as prime minister yesterday.
Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Umno have said they will cooperate with the federal government led by Anwar, for the benefit of the country.
