Treasury secretary-general Asri Hamidin has been placed on leave beginning today, a move that coincides with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's first day of duty as the finance minister, a source says.
Asri was absent from Anwar's ceremonial clocking-in ceremony at the finance ministry in Putrajaya this morning.
"The secretary-general didn't greet Anwar," the source said. "He was placed on leave.
"During the first meeting at the finance ministry, Anwar said that the secretary-general would be replaced."
Asri was appointed in 2020, not long after Tengku Zafrul Aziz took the helm at the finance ministry under Muhyiddin Yassin's administration.
