Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has welcomed his coalition's victory in the Padang Serai election, calling it proof that the people are unconvinced by the alliance between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
In a statement after the results of the election for the parliamentary seat yesterday, he said PN's majority in Padang Serai was twice that of PH when it won the constituency at the 2018 general election.
And while BN had won the race for the state seat of Tioman, he added, its majority had dropped by nearly half.
"The results of both these elections show that the people are not impressed by the BN-PH alliance," he said.
"They are not confident in the abilities of the coalition government led by PH to administer the country. Disappointed with the lies of PH and BN leaders during the campaign for the 15th general election (GE15), many supports have shifted their support to PN.
"For me, the lies of PH and BN at GE15 are 'the biggest electoral fraud ever', and today the voters in Padang Serai and Tioman have given a clear signal that they do not approve of their actions."
PN's Azman Nasrudin won the Padang Serai election by a majority of 16,260 against his main contender Mohamad Sofee Razak of PH.
In Tioman, meanwhile, BN's Mohd Johari Hussain defeated PN candidate Nor Idayu Hashim by 573 votes.
