The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested the treasurer of Bersatu as an investigation continues into allegations surrounding the flow of funds into the party, The Star reports.

The report said Salleh Bajuri was arrested yesterday with a remand application submitted at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court today.

The Star also quoted a source as saying that MACC was trying to extend his remand, calling it an effort to taint Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional.

MalaysiaNow is awaiting a response from MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Bersatu leaders have been the target of MACC in the wake of accusations by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and other government leaders of the misuse of funds for party coffers.

Former prime minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin was among those questioned by MACC over contracts awarded under JanaWibawa, a post-Covid programme to help highly rated Bumiputera contractors affected by the pandemic.

This was followed by the arrest and charging of Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who claimed trial to two counts of bribery.
