Popular 1980s singer Tengku Intan Tengku Abdul Hamid, better known as Dayangku Intan, today said that she had been axed from the Raya Glam Concert scheduled to be broadcast on Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.

Speaking to MalaysiaNow, she said she did not know why the decision was made.

She said she was only told that every individual participating in RTM programmes would have to undergo a background check.

She said the decision was only confirmed after the latest poster for the programme, slated for April 22, was released without her picture.

"They already told me before this, but I was only sure after the poster was released," she said.

"My picture was not there, so it's official: I have been axed from the programme."

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil did not respond to queries from MalaysiaNow but later tweeted that no instructions were made for a ban on  Dayangku.

Dayangku, who is best known for the popular Hari Raya song "Senandung Hari Raya Untukmu", said everything from the recording to the rehearsals had been finished.

"My fans from Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were also there. But they were scrubbed from the recording, which means that they were edited out at a later point."

She declined to speculate on whether the move was related to her decision to join PAS last December.

However, she voiced hope that Fahmi would be able to shed light on the matter, adding that she had yet to receive a convincing explanation.

"I want to know why I was removed from this programme. Why was I blocked on RTM?

"There is no black and white here, I was only told that I would be excluded, and the explanation they gave me was that they needed to run a background check."

Dayangku said she was also told that her songs might not be broadcast on the radio given that her television performance had been scrapped.

"I was told that maybe only the private radio stations would play my songs," she said.
