The Kelantan police force will deploy more than 500 personnel during the eight-day Op Selamat road safety campaign in Gua Musang beginning April 20.

Kelantan police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun said the number includes 254 traffic police officers deployed to control the anticipated traffic congestion.

"This year, we will focus more on traffic flow in Gua Musang as the main road has been temporarily closed for repair work.

"We expect this road to be heavily congested because Kelantan folks will take this opportunity to return to their hometowns for the Aidilfitri celebration after several years of Covid-19 restrictions," he told reporters at the breaking of the fast event at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters last night.

Zaki said Op Lancar would be held for two days starting Tuesday as a preliminary preparation to identify traffic flow in Gua Musang.

Through Op Lancar, he said the police would determine roads that will be closed, diverted, or turned into one-way lanes to overcome traffic congestion.

"Only 10% of over 3,000 police personnel would be allowed to take leave during the holidays," he said.
