The National Registration Department (JPN) says it issued a temporary identification document (KPPK11) on April 13 to Lina Samuel, who reportedly died of colon cancer yesterday.

She was previously reported by the media as not having an identity card or MyKad to seek treatment at the hospital.

JPN in its statement said its personnel had met with Lina and opened an investigation paper for her case.

"Out of concern for the deceased and her welfare, JPN had issued a KPPK11 on April 13, 2023," said JPN while expressing its condolences to Lina’s family.

Media reports previously stated that Lina's MyKad was confiscated when she wanted to change her address to vote in the 15th general election last year.

According JPN, the Sarawak state health director in a statement on April 12 said that she was still treated at Hospital Miri without prejudice even during the time that she did not possess her MyKad.

The department meanwhile urged the public with issues or queries related to the registration of birth, identity card, death, marriage and citizenship to head to any of the 212 JPN offices nationwide to seek help and advice.
