The education ministry has granted special permission to students, teachers and support service members in all educational institutions under its purview to wear appropriate sportswear during the current hot spell.
The ministry said the decision was made to avoid health complications resulting from the hot weather.
"For students who wear school uniforms, the use of neckties is not mandatory.
"School authorities are required to monitor the weather conditions from time to time so that immediate action can be taken to ensure the welfare, health and safety of students and teachers," the statement said.
"This phenomenon is a climate variability that occurs irregularly. Hot weather conditions can trigger heat waves that are harmful to health.
"The education ministry has always emphasised the importance of safeguarding the welfare, health, and safety of students, teachers and support service members when facing prolonged hot and dry weather that is currently affecting the country," the statement added.
