Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal from Perikatan Nasional has called for DAP leader and Jelutong MP RSN Rayer to be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee over purported remarks the latter made against former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said he has submitted the proposal to the office of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul this morning for further action.
He said that if Rayer is willing to resolve the matter, he must retracts the statements made against the two leaders.
Rayer, during the 2021 Auditor-General's Report debate yesterday, had linked the leakages in the procurement of ventilators during Covid-19 to the emergency declared by then prime minister Muhyiddin.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, however, said it was not due to the emergency but rather mismanagement on the part of the health ministry.
"The emergency cannot be blamed for it.
"This is related to the governance of the health ministry. So it is the ministry that should be probed," he said in the Dewan Rakyat this afternoon.
He also criticised Rayer over his call for the "Tun" title bestowed on Mahathir to be revoked for purportedly insulting the royal institution.
The Machang MP brushed off the allegation, saying that the former prime minister was being investigated by the police under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code and not for insulting the royal institution.
"It's not for insulting the Malay rulers.
"So why did Jelutong (Rayer) bring up the issue of revoking his Tun-ship?"
Yesterday, Rayer urged the government to consider stripping Mahathir of the title after a video clip of the latter insulting the royal institution went viral.
Mahathir was awarded the Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara which carries the "Tun" title in 2003 after retiring as prime minister for the first time.
