DAP's RSN Rayer today urged the authorities to take action against Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accusing the former prime minister of belittling the royal households.

Rayer, the Jelutong MP, said Mahathir should not get special treatment just because he had been conferred the "Tun" title.

"No charges were filed. Why?

"Twice bestowed with the honour of 'Tun' by the royal households. We chose him as the prime minister for a second time. But he took advantage of this to attack and criticise the royal households."

Rayer said that in contrast, the late DAP leader Karpal Singh was charged with sedition for criticising the involvement of the rulers in state matters. He was acquitted in 2019, five years after his death.

Rayer meanwhile questioned opposition leaders for expressing support for Mahathir by appearing with him during a recent media conference.

"Why did those at the press conference with him remain silent while the former Langkawi MP (Mahathir) berated and criticised the royal households?" he asked.

Rayer initially called for action against Mahathir on June 6.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, he criticised the former leader over reports that he had criticised the royal institution, and warned that both Mahathir and Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin could work together once more.

"The two of them want to destroy the country. They want to stop Tambun (Anwar Ibrahim) from carrying out his duties and taking care of the people's welfare," he said.

Urging the government to consider revoking Mahathir's "Tun" title, he said the police should act against him if he continue to attack the royal households.

Mahathir had previously said that he was ready to work with Muhyiddin if they could reach a consensus on mutual goals. Muhyiddin meanwhile welcomed the offer from Mahathir, saying he was prepared to work with the former prime minister to defend religion, race and country.
