The government has appointed a new auditor-general, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali announced today, a week after questions were raised about the continued vacancy in office.
In a statement, he said that following discussions with the Conference of Rulers, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had consented to the appointment of Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi effective June 13.
"Her appointment is based on her leadership skills and extensive experience throughout 29 years of service in the public sector," he said.
Wan Suraya's last post was CEO of the Malaysian Institute of Integrity.
MPs from opposition pact Perikatan Nasional last week questioned the vacancy, noting that the position had remained unfilled since the retirement of Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid in February.
They said the matter deserved to be given priority as many national affairs could not be handled without an auditor-general.
