The political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has contacted the family of Abdul Hadi Awang to enquire about his health, following public outrage over a statement by a PKR supporter calling for the PAS president's death.
Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin also conveyed his wishes for Hadi's recovery on behalf of the prime minister and his office.
"Thankfully, communications have been good and we have been given the latest updates on Hadi's health," he said.
Hadi was discharged yesterday.
Today's development came after Anwar slammed PKR supporter Ahmad Zaki Yamani over a Twitter post praying for the death of Hadi and Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Anwar said he had also instructed Zaki to immediately remove the post, which he only did more than 24 hours later.
Shamsul meanwhile denied an earlier report by MalaysiaNow referring to Zaki as his aide, saying there was no link between them in any official capacity.
"The allegations about such a link should not made into a polemic without clear basis," he added, urging MalaysiaNow to retract the report.
For the record, MalaysiaNow had published Zaki's denial in the same report that he was an aide to Shamsul.
MalaysiaNow also amended the headline suggesting that Zaki was an aide to Shamsul.
