Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is expected to be charged tomorrow, just four days after police launched an investigation into his speech in which he was accused of questioning the Selangor sultan over the appointment of Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
It is understood that the outspoken politician will be brought to the Selayang Sessions Court tomorrow.
Sanusi has since apologised to Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah over the remarks he made during a recent ceramah, saying his words had been twisted.
The 49-year-old PAS leader, widely considered among the most popular politicians, has been in the limelight for his straight-talking style, making him a target of ruling politicians.
In the heat of the storm, his TikTok account was mysteriously removed. A replacement account created for him garnered hundreds of thousands of followers in less than 24 hours.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain earlier promised a speedy investigation into Sanusi amid repeated calls from government leaders to charge him.
Razarudin recently said that police are also investigating 60 other cases involving complaints touching on race, religion and royalty.
Sanusi appears to be the first to be charged.
Police have yet to announce the outcome of their investigations into other prominent politicians, including DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, who recently raised the spectre of non-Muslim houses of worship being destroyed if the "green wave" – DAP's reference to Perikatan Nasional's gains in last year's polls – set its foot in Penang.
