British rock band The 1975's concert in Sepang last night came to an abrupt end after vocalist Matty Healy repeated a behaviour he has been doing in other parts of the world: venting out about laws against homosexuality and kissing a male on stage.

Healy was headlining the first day of the three-day Good Vibes Festival 2023 when he burst out cursing against the ban on gay sex.

"I made a mistake. When we were booking shows, I wasn't looking into it. I don't see the f****** point... of inviting The 1975 to a country and then telling us who we can have sex with," Healy said with a wine bottle in hand, as some young fans appeared to shout in approval.

"I don't care anymore. If you push, I'm going to push back. I'm not in the f****** mood.

"You're young people, and I'm sure a lot of you are gay and progressive," he went on.

He said he had considered dropping out of the show in protest of Malaysia's laws against homosexuality but later decided to go ahead.

"We said, 'You know what? We can't let the kids down because they're not the government.' ...

"But, I've done this before. I've gone to a country where I don't know what the f*** it is? Ridiculous. F***ing ridiculous to tell people what they can do with their that and that," he said, pointing to his mouth and groin. "I'll take your money. You can ban me, but I've done this before, and it doesn't feel good, and I'm f***ed off."

Fellow band member Ross MacDonald then walked over to Healy, and the duo locked lips.

The band still managed to finish their seventh song before abruptly ending their show, with Healy saying, "We just got banned from Kuala Lumpur, goodbye."

It was not the first time he had pulled such a stunt in a Muslim country.

In 2019, he kissed a male fan onstage during a concert in Dubai.

In a response on Twitter, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said authorities would call up organisers for an explanation of the incident.

"This is a very insolent act," he said.

The band is expected to perform in Jakarta next.

Organisers of the Good Vibes Festival, meanwhile, said the show will continue for the next two days.

"If you have a Friday single-day festival wristband, you will now be able to attend the festival on either Saturday or Sunday," it said in a statement.

The three-day festival showcases local and foreign artists and has been held at the Sepang International Circuit since 2013.
