Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairman Mohamed Azmin Ali speaking at the Selangor Perikatan Nasional Election Convention in Shah Alam today, June 24, 2023.

Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Mohammed Azmin Ali has revealed that a large group of Umno leaders gathered for a closed meeting last night to express their full support for the coalition in the upcoming state election.

Azmin said that the group consisted of about 30 Umno branch chiefs from the Gombak, including those currently in position and a number of female branch chiefs from the Gombak parliamentary constituency.

He added that they convened to express their willingness to support PN while remaining in Umno.

"Enough is enough.

"This decision was not made under duress but out of concern and awareness that we are responsible for saving this state and the country," he said during a public lecture at Taman Melawati last night.

Azmin, who will be contesting the Hulu Kelang seat, said that many parties, including the media, have asked him about the overwhelming support for the coalition leading up to the state polls on Aug 12.

Brushing off the green wave label attached to PN, Azmin said it was a term used by veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang to create negative narratives about the coalition and scare non-Malay voters.

"This isn't the green wave, but rather a wave of public dissatisfaction towards the government," he added.
