All 19 candidates from Muda contesting the Aug 12 state elections have declared their assets, their president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman says.
This includes the submission of statutory declarations (SDs) and a list of accumulated assets and liabilities available to the public at Muda's website.
Syed Saddiq said the asset declaration was carried out transparently and that the candidates who declared their assets were also bound by the SDs.
"This is a good governance process that Muda placed as a pre-condition before they were officially picked to represent Muda in the state elections.
"When done through the asset declaration process through SDs, we are held accountable to those SDs and we all know that we cannot cheat in SDs – action can be taken.
"At the same time, we open our books and other media friends can also see. I think it’s fair," he told reporters in Petaling Jaya yesterday.
Syed Saddiq also said that the asset declaration process was not a gimmick, adding that it placed accountability on those who join politics.
