PH returns to Selangor but battered, as Umno brought to its knees again
Umno, which is carrying the BN torch in the six state polls, repeats its general election misfortune at the hands of Perikatan Nasional.

Barisan Nasional (BN), represented solely by Umno, has again been snubbed by its traditional Malay vote base, with Perikatan Nasional (PN) bringing the party to its knees in a repeat of the general election outcome last year.
As of 11.30pm on Aug 12, Pakatan Harapan (PH) on its own had won a simple majority to form the state government in Selangor after taking control of mostly Chinese-majority seats won by DAP and mixed seats by PKR.
Even with Umno's two seats, this was still a far cry from the two-thirds majority enjoyed by the PH government in Selangor since the last polls in 2018.
As of press time, it appeared that Negeri Sembilan was the only state where Umno had managed to win most of the seats it contested.
Unofficially, Umno won only 19 of the 108 state seats it contested in the polls and was wiped out in Terengganu and Kedah despite intense campaigning, which saw Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and top Cabinet members frequently appear at large-scale ceramahs.
Umno state chiefs for Selangor, Terengganu, and Kedah were also defeated.
