Muda and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) today urged the government to reprosecute Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi following the discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) granted for all 47 corruption charges in the Yayasan Akalbudi case.

Muda secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi said the parties had submitted a memorandum to this effect to MPs today.

"Prosecute Zahid again. If he is not guilty, prove it in court," he said at the handover of the memorandum.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is the MP for Muar, and Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari were among those who received the document.

Hang Tuah Jaya MP Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari and Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman meanwhile represented the government at its receipt.

The memorandum, among others, called for a debate of the DNAA in Parliament. It also urged the government to set a time frame for the separation of powers between the attorney-general and the public prosecutor.

The document came days after the "Save Malaysia" rally organised by Perikatan Nasional (PN) to protest the court decision.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul had also rejected PN's motion to debate the case following the presentation of the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan last week.

Suara Rakyat Malaysia executive director Sevan Doraisamy meanwhile said that the government should respect the people's right to peaceful assembly.
