Rights group Lawyers For Liberty (LFL) today released a dashcam video recording showing a personnel accompanying Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's assaulting an e-hailing driver, in an incident which sparked public outrage in May.
A two-minute clip showed a man shouting at Grab driver Ong Ing Keong as he waited for his passengers outside the St Regis hotel.
Ong, who is deaf, then rolled down his car window to speak to what looked like a police officer, before the man suddenly attacked him with a hard punch on the face.
Lawyer N Surendran said the clip had already been given to police since the day of the incident on May 28.
"In the face of evidence as clear as that, no one has been brought to justice for this assault upon Ong. It is clearly someone from the escort who did it. His identity is known to the investigative body. Why have charges not been brought?" Surendran said at a press conference.
"We urge the authorities, the police, the Attorney-General's Office and the government to take the matter seriously," he added.
Following the incident, Ong, 46, lodged two police reports at the Brickfields police station.
But he claimed that he was later approached by a palace representative at the police station, who requested him to withdraw his reports.
Speaking through a sign language interpreter, Ong today said he was still waiting for justice.
"I really hope the suspect will be brought to justice. I have shown my face to the media. Why has the suspect not been revealed?
"I feel very depressed for the prolonged silence over this incident."
