A recent incident allegedly involving influential DAP leader Nga Kor Ming's official vehicle at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) has drawn the ire of MCA Youth, who called on the housing and local government minister to apologise for repeatedly causing inconvenience by invoking his ministerial status.
This was in response to a photo circulated on social media (right) of Nga's vehicle illegally parked at the entrance of the hospital.
According to a viral eyewitness account of the incident, the driver refused to move his vehicle when asked to do so by the hospital's auxiliary police and subsequently got into a heated argument.
"This is not the first time that Nga Kor Ming’s team has disrupted public order. These incidents expose Nga Kor Ming’s negligence of his duty as a minister. He must take immediate action and formally apologise to the public and vow not to repeat such acts again," said MCA Youth secretary-general Saw Yee Fung.
PPUM investigating
When contacted, a spokesman for PPUM said the hospital was investigating the incident and would issue a statement soon.
Meanwhile, an aide to Nga said he would get back with a response after consulting the minister on the matter.
Earlier this year, Nga came under fire after a clip showed his official vehicle tailgating an ambulance to avoid heavy traffic.
Nga was also involved in another incident in Penang in June where 30 parking bays were cleared for his entourage attending a luncheon at a restaurant.
Saw accused the minister and his team of repeatedly abusing ministerial privileges.
"This not only constitutes an abuse of public resources but also shows a flagrant disregard for traffic laws, endangering the safety of other road users.
"As a minister, Nga Kor Ming has a responsibility to lead by example, not to exploit his position or to misuse his authority. However, he and his team have repeatedly ignored the warnings issued to him and continued to engage in misconducts, tarnishing the government’s image," she added.
