Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has been questioned by police in an investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The 34-year-old was questioned on Saturday by the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Special Investigation Team.
They want answers concerning WhatsApp chats between Padukone and her managers which suggested that marijuana was bought for consumption, reports the London Metro.
Padukone is one of India’s highest paid actresses and has won Filmfare Awards for leading roles in Piku, Om Shanti Om and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.
The NCB is pursuing two investigations in relation to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, an Indian actor best known for his work in Hindi films who apparently hanged himself at his Mumbai home in June aged 34.
Following Rajput’s death, the actor’s family registered a police complaint against his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, accusing her of abetting his suicide by providing him with drugs that exacerbated his mental health issues.
Chakraborty has been arrested for allegedly organising and financing Rajput’s consumption of cannabis.
According to a report in The News International of Pakistan, Sara Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor also appeared before the NCB on Saturday and told them that Sushant Singh Rajput used to consume drugs in his vanity van, a large trailer for Bollywood actors and actresses to relax in while filming.
Officials are also investigating claims of widespread drug use in Bollywood.
Everyone questioned has denied using drugs.
