The Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy warns of the consequences of not regulating vaping and vape-related products, especially for the youth.

The Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy says the objectives of the generational endgame can be realised by placing the onus on retailers, companies and corporations instead of individuals.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin says many agree to the bill in principle, only that several provisions including enforcement and fines need fine-tuning.

He says that young people need to be educated in order to adopt the best health practices.

It has been referred to the parliamentary select committee for recommendations for further improvement.

The quantum of fines will be reduced from RM5,000 to RM500 or community service orders.

He says the committee can then review issues regarding constitutional enforcement as well as matters related to the implementation of the control of tobacco products and smoking.

Former deputy health director-general Dr Lokman Hakim Sulaiman says MPs have a moral responsibility to support the Control of Tobacco Products and Smoking Bill 2022.

The Consumers Association of Penang says the Control of Tobacco Product and Smoking Bill 2022 is long overdue.

This comes as medical experts criticise some MPs for refusing to support the health ministry's 'tobacco generational endgame'.
