In South Korea, the government has said it has found no scientific or technical problems with the release, but public concern remains high over seafood and ocean contamination.

China customs did not give details on the specific aquatic products affected by the ban.

Though approved by the UN nuclear watchdog, Japan's plan to dump the water has faced opposition at home and abroad, including from China, over worries about food safety.

China, the biggest buyer of Japan's seafood exports, said it would also strictly review the documents for food, especially aquatic products, from other parts of Japan, customs say.

The planned release of the water from the plant north of Tokyo has faced opposition at home and abroad despite Japanese assurances that it is safe after being filtered to remove most isotopes.

But even there, they cannot escape the fish which have infiltrated the irrigation systems as well.

Vessel licensing, the establishment of fishing zones and collaboration with marine enforcement agencies are just some of the initiatives taken by the government to preserve and revive the country's marine life.
