Vineyards nationwide have enough wine in domestic storage to fill 859 Olympic swimming pools, reports say.

Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad says various factors must be taken into account including the trend of coal and gas prices.

The statement follows an agreement reached between China and Australia to resolve their dispute over barley imports, in the latest sign of improving ties between the major commodity trade partners.

The modified rates approved in 2021 were due to expire at the end of this year, but an inflation rate running at 14-year highs warranted an extension of the tariff reprieve until Dec 31, 2023.

The tariffs were imposed in 2018 and 2019 by Trump on thousands of Chinese imports valued then at US$370 billion to pressure China over its suspected theft of US intellectual property.

With some of the tariffs due to expire soon, officials in Washington have been discussing the measures with an eye on inflation, which is sitting at four-decade highs.

Ismail Sabri Yaakob also says that the price of chicken will not be floated, and that a new ceiling price will be set.

China has fallen short of its pledge under the two-year Phase 1 trade agreement to buy US$200 billion in additional US goods and services during 2020 and 2021, and it remains unclear how the shortfall will be addressed.
